What is Criterion 5?
Criterion 5 of Placar Frio identifies teams with five or more consecutive wins. When a side strings together five straight victories — at home, away, or a mixture — the system flags that team's next match as a favourable pattern.
The concept behind this criterion is momentum: the tendency of a team in good form to maintain and reproduce its performance level in the following match. The system's data shows this effect is real and statistically relevant.
The system's real data
Across the 67 matches where Placar Frio identified this pattern, the results were:
- Team on the run wins: 42 matches — 62.7%
- Draw: 14 matches — 20.9%
- Team on the run loses: 11 matches — 16.4%
The team with five consecutive wins was beaten in only 11 of 67 matches. In 56 games — more than 5 in every 6 — they left with at least a draw.
Double chance (team on run wins OR draws): 56 of 67 matches — 83.6% success rate
Note: with 67 matches, this is the smallest sample of the six criteria — the pattern is robust, but based on fewer matches than Criteria 1, 3, and 4. Teams with 5 straight wins are naturally rarer than league leaders or bottom-placed sides.
What momentum really means in football
Momentum is not mysticism — it has concrete explanations:
- Collective confidence — teams on a positive run enter matches with less anxiety, make quicker decisions, and take more calculated risks
- Tactical fluency — five consecutive matches with the same system and the same group of players developing chemistry creates a fluency that sides in poor form cannot easily replicate
- Psychological pressure on the opponent — facing a team coming off 5 straight wins carries weight. The opponent tends to be more conservative and reactive
Real examples from recent matches
In recent days, Criterion 5 flagged matches such as:
- Al Nassr 2–0 Al-Ahli (29/04) — the team on a run won at home comfortably
- Bayern Munich W 2–0 Bremen W (29/04) — Bayern's sequence confirmed even away from home
- Manila Digger 3–0 One Taguig (29/04) — the team in momentum won away
- Al Khalidiyah 2–1 Al-Hidd (27/04) — a tight but confirmed win
- Atletico-PI W 8–1 Rio Negro W (27/04) — an emphatic scoreline from the team on a run
Failures: Grêmio W 2–0 Bahia W (28/04) and Los Chankas 4–0 AD Tarma (27/04) — two of the 11 matches (16.4%) where the team on a winning run was stopped.
How to use double chance for this criterion
Double chance covers the team on a run winning OR drawing — losing only if they are beaten. To maximise value:
- Length of the run — a team with 7 or 8 consecutive wins has more solid momentum than one that has just hit the five-match minimum
- Quality of the run — wins against varied opponents (at home and away, against different levels of competition) is a stronger signal than five easy wins against bottom-placed sides
- Combine with other criteria — if the team on a run is also top 3 and playing at home (Criteria 1 and 5 together), the pattern is much stronger
- Opponent without special motivation — mid-table sides with nothing to play for are the most vulnerable to a team in momentum
When this criterion can fail
The 16.4% of defeats for the team on a run occur more often in specific scenarios:
- Highly motivated opponent — a derby, a relegation six-pointer, or a cup final can completely override the momentum effect
- Accumulated fatigue — five matches in two weeks generates tiredness. Teams with very compressed fixture lists may see performance drop even in good form
- Managerial change at the opponent — sides that have just appointed a new manager frequently surprise in the first few matches, regardless of their opponent

Placar Frio's analysis is exclusively statistical and informational in nature. An 83.6% double chance rate means that in 16.4% of cases the pattern did not hold — 11 defeats in 67 matches.
